The Waylark Guide
Everything Waylark does, in one place. It's a small app on purpose — you'll likely never need this page — but here's the whole map, from your first detour to the route that records them all.
1 · Getting started
Waylark opens with a short welcome and a single question: which vibes are you in the mood for? Your picks gently steer the kinds of detours you'll be offered — you can change them any time. That's the whole setup. No account, no email, no permissions you have to grant up front.
2 · The daily detour (Today)
The Today tab is the heart of the app. Each day it shows a single detour, chosen for you and held steady all day: a vibe-and-duration chip (say, Wander · 20 min), the detour itself in large type, and a short “spark” line explaining the idea.
The detour is deterministic: it's selected from your chosen vibes by the calendar day, so it doesn't shuffle every time you open the app, and your Home-Screen widget always shows the very same one. There's nothing to refresh and nothing to miss.
3 · Swap & skip
Today's detour not quite right? You have two gentle escape hatches, both on the Today screen.
4 · Completing a detour
When you've done the thing, open the detour and tap I did it. You'll see a small reward moment — a glowing check, your adventure number, and any streak or new-vibe chips you just earned — followed by a snippet of your route.
Completing is also where you can keep a private memory of the moment, if you want to:
- A note. One line about how it went, what you saw, who you called. Entirely optional.
- A photo. Attach a picture from the moment. It stays inside the app unless you choose to save or share it.
From the reward screen you can share a dusk card of the detour, or just tap Done. Notes and photos are for you alone — Waylark is a logbook, not a feed.
5 · Your route & streak
The Route tab is Waylark's signature. Every detour you complete becomes a glowing dot on a single, winding dotted route, drawn over a faint topographic background, with your next stop waiting just ahead. It's a quiet map of all the small ways you stepped off the path.
At the top, three live metrics summarize your wandering:
| Metric | What it counts |
|---|---|
| Adventures | Total detours you've completed. |
| Day streak | Consecutive days with a completed detour. Skipped days don't break it; only a completion extends it. |
| Vibes | How many distinct vibes you've explored. |
The route animates as it draws when you open the screen — or holds perfectly still if you've turned on Reduce Motion. Tap any node to revisit that detour. Haven't completed one yet? A warm empty state points you back to Today.
6 · The five badges
There are exactly five badges, all earned just by wandering. Earned badges light up; the rest sit dimmed with a small lock until you reach them. You'll find them on the You tab.
| Badge | How to earn it |
|---|---|
| First step | Complete your very first detour. |
| Wanderer | Reach a 7-day streak. |
| Trailblazer | Reach a 30-day streak. |
| Explorer | Complete detours across at least three different vibes. |
| Wayfarer | Complete 50 detours in all. |
7 · The eight vibes
Detours are grouped into eight vibes. Two are Free forever; the other six unlock with Pro. Choose which vibes you're in the mood for in onboarding or in Settings, and Waylark leans toward them when picking your day.
| Vibe | Detours | Tier | A taste |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wander | 11 | Free | “Take the long way home.” |
| Connection | 8 | Free | “Call someone you miss.” |
| Be amazed | 6 | Pro | “Watch the sunset all the way down.” |
| Outdoors | 6 | Pro | “Walk somewhere green for fifteen minutes.” |
| Taste | 6 | Pro | “Order the thing you cannot pronounce.” |
| Creativity | 6 | Pro | “Write one sentence about today worth keeping.” |
| Slow down | 6 | Pro | “Do nothing, on purpose, for five minutes.” |
| Type-2 fun | 6 | Pro | “Take the stairs all the way up something tall.” |
That's 55 detours in total — 19 free, 36 with Pro. Browse every pack on the Explore tab; locked packs show a small Pro badge.
8 · Widgets & the share card
Home-Screen widgets
Add a widget from the Home Screen (touch & hold → + → search “Waylark”):
- Small — a streak flame with your day count, in the field-log mono numerals.
- Medium — today's detour as a dusk card you can read at a glance.
Both show the same detour as the app for the day, and refresh at midnight and whenever you complete one. Tapping a widget deep-links straight into the app.
The share card
From a completed detour, tap Share to render a tall dusk card — the wordmark, your day, the detour in Fraunces, a snippet of your route and your streak — ready for Messages, a story, or your own files. It's generated on your device and goes only where you send it.
9 · The daily reminder
Waylark offers a single, optional daily nudge at a time you choose (You → Settings). It's a local notification — gently and variably worded, never a guilt trip — and you can turn it off completely. With reminders off, the app still works exactly the same; you just open it when you feel like wandering.
10 · Accessibility
- Move however you move. Every vibe includes seated, on-wheels, indoor and low-energy variants. No prompt assumes you're able-bodied, social or outdoorsy; many carry an explicit gentler alternative.
- Set the pace. A difficulty setting biases toward shorter, calmer detours when you want them.
- Dynamic Type. The custom type scales with your system text size, readable all the way up.
- Reduce Motion. Turn it on and the route stops animating — it appears fully drawn, instantly.
- VoiceOver. Every control is labeled, and the route is described meaningfully rather than read as decoration.
11 · Waylark Pro
Pro unlocks every vibe — all 55 detours across eight packs. Everything else is free, forever.
| Plan | Price (US) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $2.99 / month | Every vibe, billed monthly. Cancel anytime. |
| Yearly | $19.99 / year | Best value (~$1.67/mo), with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. |
| Lifetime | $39.99 once | Every pack for good — one purchase, no subscription. |
Your local price is shown in the App Store. Purchases, renewals and refunds are handled by Apple; manage a subscription under Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions, and use Restore Purchases (You → Settings) on a new device. If Pro lapses or is refunded, the app returns to the free packs and never deletes your route, completions or notes. See the terms for the full detail.
12 · Privacy
Everything you do in Waylark stays on your iPhone. No account, no server, no analytics, no tracking, no third-party SDKs — the App Store label is “Data Not Collected.” Read the full privacy policy for specifics on purchases, notifications, photos and sharing.
